Judges' Biographies
Olivia Kim
is a talented artist and sculptor based in Rochester, NY, known for her
captivating works that explore human movement and the essence of the
human experience.
Olivia was born in the Philippines and came to Rochester when she was a
child. Her travels to countries in Europe, Southeast Asia, Central
and South America and study of world art and culture have helped her
start to see the universal roots of humanity. She draws, paints,
and primarily sculpts the human figure. She specializes in clay,
bronze and glass materials, as they reflect different qualities of
existence. She is best known for having made numerous public
statues of Frederick Douglass in Rochester, NY. Her work has
received national and international awards, including Prize for Best
Sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art, a Chairman's Extraordinary
Action Award from the National Endowment for the Arts as a part of the
Building and Rebuilding Monuments to American Heroes executive order
(bronze Frederick Douglass at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester
International Airport) and Structural Award of the Year from the
National Public Works Association (bronze Douglass and Lincoln shaking
hands for the Riverwall Improvement Project on Exchange St, Rochester,
NY). Plans are being made for her to make a statue of Susan B
Anthony for the Susan B Anthony House, children to go with the Frederick
Douglass Airport bronze and other public works.
Andrea Zuchegno
is
an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Visual Communications
Studies Department at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, one
of the colleges of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). A
Rochester native, Andrea grew up immersed in the visual culture of her
hometown—known as “The World’s Image Center.” Her passion for
photography began early, influenced by a family legacy at Eastman Kodak
and the constant presence of cameras at family gatherings. She went on
to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Photographic
Communications and Master of Science degrees in both Graphic Media
Publishing and Secondary Education of Students who are Deaf or Hard of
Hearing, all from RIT.
With
a teaching career spanning over two decades, Andrea is dedicated to
fostering visual literacy and creativity in her students. Her
photographic interests include macro, micro, and travel photography. Her
work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in
Athens, Greece, and featured in publications such as FEEL magazine.
