Dear ICPG Patron,

The highly regarded international photography publication B&W will feature, in a five page presentation, an interview with Seyda Deligonul and his selected images.  The issue will be on the news stands in late March.

Image City Photography Gallery views Seyda’s images as “exquisite” and presents his work in its next exhibit, Whispers Within.  The exhibit is from February 28 through March 25.  The Artist Reception is Friday, March 2, from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Expressionism in photography may sound like a misnomer.  This exhibit shows it is not.  Seyda’s work captures the way nature presents itself as if it were an artist’s extremely fast work on the canvas.  His imagery reveals feelings and emotions, expressed with gestures, sometimes with large brush strokes, sometimes dappling as if paint drips onto canvas.  His phrases are simple, soft and peaceful, almost mystical in the approach to abstraction.

The end result is characterized by a strong dependence on what appears to be chance. Seyda acknowledges an expressionism influenced by Kline, Klee, and Twombly among many others.  On the photography side, Seyda admires Robert Doisneau, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Eugene Atget, and Andre Kertesz.

Seyda has won numerous photography awards, including one from Kodak, and his work has drawn the attention of companies such as Microsoft.

Seyda, age 57, was born in Turkey and schooled in California. He resides now in Rochester.  Having begun his career as a Chemical Engineer, he later studied Business Management, and is currently a professor at St. John Fisher College.

Also showing are four guest photographers, three Artists in Residence, and six gallery partners.

We invite you to meet Seyda at the Artist Reception.
