Image City Photography Gallery in partnership with our sponsorsLumiere Photo, Adobe, and Archival Methods are excited to introduce a major event at Image City Photography Gallery. It is called Photographers' Journey 2023.

We invite photographers' participation and submissions to this juried competition that will be judged by two distiguished, independent judges. 

Each single entry will be four photographs. Image City will assign each of your photos to one of the eight categories below. You can enter as many times as you wish.

1.    Landscape/Seascape

2.    Architectural/Cityscape

3.    Digital/Conceptual/Abstract

4.    Documentary/Journalism/Street

5.    Portrait/Event/Sports

6.    Wildlife

7.    Botanical/Still Life

8.    Travel/Places

A few details:      

  • Each entry submitted has four images on a CD, DVD, Jump Drive or is uploaded online. Note: You may enter more then once with additional submissions.

  • Final Date for submission of entry forms is June 2.

  • The charge will be $40 for each entry of four photographs, with unlimited number of entries.

  • Image City will select the top 8 photographs in each category, all of which will be displayed and offered for sale at the August 8 - September 3 show.

  • From the top photographs selected in each category, our independent judges will select the best single photograph in each category.  From these top photographs an overall Grand Prize and two runners-up will be selected as winners.

  • Prizes totaling a value of $3,500 will be given to the winners, generously offered by our sponsors and the Gallery.

  • We will publish a catalog displaying all of the winners in each category. The category winners will receive a copy. The catalog will be on sale at the gallery.

  • For selected photographs, Lumiere Photo is offering a 15% discount on printing orders and 30% discount for framing orders up to July 20.
  • The distinguished judges for the exhibition are Daniel Hughs, Undergraduate Program Director for Photographic Sciences program for the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Eric T. Kunsman, Assistant Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the Visual Communications Studies Department at the National Technical Institute for the deaf and is an adjunct professor for the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. The Winners in each of the eight categories will receive:

  • A limited-edition copy of the exhibition catalog

The Grand Prize Winner, announced at the August 11 Opening Reception, will receive:

  • A gift card for $150 from Lumiere Photo good for custom framing only and a 20x24-in frame kit (mat, glass, backing, frame, and hardware)

  • An award certificate for $300 from Archival Methods

Judges' Biographies

Daniel Hughes is the Undergraduate Program Director for the Photographic Sciences program for the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

An avid image maker and post processing guru, his background is in advertising photography and photo processing software solutions.

Previous to teaching Daniel developed educational webinars, seminars, and materials which focused on improving photographs through post processing and retouching at several well-known software companies. He has an eye for the technical facets of photography but is touched by photographs that tell a story in a single frame.

Eric T. Kunsman holds his MFA in Book Arts/Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and holds an MS in Electronic Publishing/Graphic Arts Media, BS in Biomedical Photography, and BFA in Fine Art photography, all from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.

Currently, he is a photographer and book artist based out of Rochester, New York. Eric works at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) as an Assistant Professor in the Visual Communications Studies Department at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf and is an adjunct professor for the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences.

In addition to lectures, he provides workshops on topics including his artistic practice, digital printing, and digital workflow processes. He provided industry seminars for the highly regarded Printing Applications Lab at RIT. His photographs and books are exhibited internationally and are in several collections. He currently owns Booksmart Studio, which is a fine art digital printing studio specializing in numerous techniques and services for photographers and book artists on a collaborative basis.
