Image City Photography Gallery in partnership with our sponsorsLumiere Photo, Adobe, and Archival Methods are excited to introduce a new major event at Image City Photography Gallery. It is called Photographers' Journey 2021.

We invite photographers' participation and submissions to this juried competition that will be judged by two distiguished, independent judges. 

Each single entry will be four photographs. Image City will assign each of your photos to one of the eight categories below. You can enter as many times as you wish.

1.    Landscape/Seascape

2.    Architectural/Cityscape

3.    Digital/Conceptual/Abstract

4.    Documentary/Journalism/Street

5.    Portrait/Event/Sports

6.    Wildlife

7.    Botanical/Still Life

8.    Travel/Places

A few details:      

  • Each entry submitted has four images on a CD, DVD, Jump Drive or is uploaded online.

  • Final Date for submission of entry forms is June 9.

  • The charge will be $40 for each entry of four photographs, with unlimited number of entries.

  • Image City will select the top 8 photographs in each category, all of which will be displayed and offered for sale at the August 9 - September 4 show.

  • From the top photographs selected in each category, our independent judges will select the best single photograph in each category.  From these top photographs an overall Grand Prize and two runners-up will be selected as winners.

  • Prizes totaling a value of $3,000 will be given to the winners, generously offered by our sponsors and the Gallery.

  • We will publish a catalog displaying all of the winners in each category. The category winners will receive a copy. The catalog will be on sale at the gallery.

  • For selected photographs, Lumiere Photo is offering a 20% discount on printing orders and 30% discount for framing orders up to July 24.

The distinguished judges for the exhibition are Nick Brandreth, Historic Process Specialist, George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York and Dan Larkin, Associate Professor in Fine Art Photography at the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at RIT. See the biographies below to learn more about our Photographers' Journey 2022 judges. They will select the Grand Prize Winner and two runners up, upon viewing the framed prints on the Gallery walls.


The eight winners of each category will each receive:

  • Exhibition of their selected photograph(s) at Image City

  • A limited-edition copy of the exhibition catalog

  • An 11x14-in frame kit (mat, glass, backing, frame, and hardware) from Lumiere Photo.

The Grand Prize Winner, announced at the August 11 Opening Reception will receive:

  • An gift card for $100 from Lumiere Photo good for custom framing only.

  • An award certificate for $300 from Archival Methods

  • 1 year certificate Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan

  • $300 cash from Image City Photography Gallery

The 2 Runner Up Winners, announced at the August 12 Opening Reception will receive:

  • A 16x20-in frame kit (mat, glass, backing, frame, and hardware) from Lumiere Photo

  • $100 cash from Image City Photography Gallery

Gift Certificates from local businesses in the Neighborhood of the Arts Business Association will also be awarded.

Judges' Biographies: 


Nick Brandreth

Nick Brandreth is a Photographer / Artist and the Historic Process Specialist at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York. His primary work at the Museum is teaching public workshops in a variety of 19th century photographic techniques. His extensive research in the evolution of silver gelatin emulsions is internationally recognized and has placed him in a unique position to teach the techniques of making, photographic papers, dry plate glass negatives and early 20th century era motion picture film. Brandreth applies his knowledge and expertise to his personal vision. Most recently with two solo shows in 2019 at the Makers Gallery in Rochester, NY and Mana Contemporary Art Center in Jersey City, NJ. Brandreth was also the artist in residence at the Metabolic Studio in Los Angeles, California in January 2019.


Dan Larkin

Dan Larkin was born in Rochester, New York in 1955. He received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1993 and a MFA from Bard College in 1994. He is presently an Associate Professor in Fine Art Photography at the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences at RIT.  

He considers himself an artist with a distinctive sensitivity for dealing with nuances of light and color.  His concern with photography lies in coaxing insight from the seemingly ordinary. Dan has developed  ongoing bodies of work that separately, or when grouped together with specificity, might suggest an implied narrative.
